updated october 30, 2011, with a little backing and filling!
Scamorama proudly brings you another tale of ecclesiastical eccentricity from The Foreign Office.
This operation is spearheaded by Agent Lonslo Tossov (currently undercover as a cleric and last seen in LAST MINUTE WITHDRAWAL) and the brutally efficient Tushie Meshuganah, who earlier this year graced the pages of ONE LUMPUR OR TWO?.
Their adventures are part of a vast compendium of spy exploits going back to the classic THE SCAMMISH ARMADA. Just as Nelson watches over Trafalgar Square, the Foreign Office guard the nation from the inner sanctum of Annie's Bar.
Featuring
Mrs Margaret Sawers, dying heiress of the CANCER LETTER kind

Your basic cancer scam.
Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2011 Greetings from Mrs Margaret Sawers, After going through your information over the internet i decided to contact you for friendship and assistance for distribution of my inheritance towards charity. My name Mrs Margaret Sawers; I am a dying woman who has decided to donate what I have for the good work of charity. I am 60 years old and I was diagnosed for breast cancer for about 2 years now. I have been touched by God to donate from what I have inherited from my late husband to you for the good work of God, rather than allow my husband evil relatives to use my husband hard earned funds ungodly. They don't care about man kind, all they care is how to rob some money from me and spend them ungodly. Please pray that the good Lord forgives me my sins. I have asked God to forgive me and I believe he has because He is a merciful God. I will be going in for a surgery soon and I want to make sure that I make this donation before undergoing my surgery. I decided to donate the sum of $7,500,000 (seven million five hundred thousand dollars) to you for the good work of the lord, and also to help the motherless and less privilege and also for the assistance of the widows and unfortunate mothers. At the moment I cannot take any telephone calls right now due to the fact that my husband's relatives are always around me and trying to see if they can overhear my conversations and my health status as well. I wish you all the best and may the good Lord bless you abundantly, and please use the funds well and always extend the good work to others. I have informed my consultant about the ($7,500,000.00). it is true that I don? know you and you don't know, but I have been directed by God to contact you for this. Thanks and God bless. I will direct you furtherafter hearing from you. NB: I will appreciate your utmost confidentiality in this matter until the task is accomplished as I don't want anything that will jeopardize my wish. Also I will be contacting with you only by email as I don't want my husband relations or anybody to know because they are always around me. Reply me through this my most private email: mrs.margaretsawers15@yahoo.com.hkThe Reverend Lonslo Tossov
Date: June 16, 2011 Dear Mrs Sewers I am not sure what to make of this extraordinarily kind offer. It would certainly make a huge difference to our New Roof Fund. Naturally I was shocked to hear of your affliction. When the congregation is gathered tonight, after evensong and the monthly pig raffle I shall ask them to pray that you get exactly what you deserve from God. When can we expect the money? Rev TMrs Margaret Sawers

Date: June 27, 2011 Dear Mrs Sawers Sorry to delay in making response. It has been a little hectic here this weekend with a local festival occurring and I have had a lot to do with arrangements and so on. Once a year all the little children from around the village here bring offerings to Our Lady of Merkin. The happy smiling faces are a joy to behold crowded as they are into the little tin chapel at Mbalonga, raising their sweet voices to heaven, before the ox roast and wicker man is lit. I have indeed received something back from Dr Clerk although I fear he is asking for documents I do no have. Perhaps this will prove too difficult . I can send you a copy of his reply if you want. Lord help you Rev TDr Michael Clerk

MR. MICHAEL CLERK The Reverend Lonslo Tossov
To: drmichael_clerk@yahoo.co.uk Dear Mr Clerk Many thanks for this notification but, as I have just written, to Barrister Melet I am little confused. I don't remember submitting any documents, and in any case my superior would have to OK any expenditure of church funds even in such a good cause. As far as paying you a visit to process signatory paperwork, I would need to plan this in around my local duties. If it was to happen I may have to contact a relative of mine to do it and save on airfares. Hugh Jereckshon lives in London and could show his head if needs be. Incidentally do you have the Church of The Royal Merkin as a customer? I think they are nearby. I went there a few years back on a brass rubbing holiday. God help you
The Reverend Lonslo Tossov Mrs Tushie Meshuganah

Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 Attention Sir, I do not know if you have received this information.
I am sorry to inform you of the Death of Mr Margaret Sawers today 4.35 A.M this morning . What are we to do now? Barrister Melet. The Reverend Lonslo Tossov
Subject: To Barr Melet Dear Barr Melet This indeed is dreadful news. So much so that it sent me into something of a fit of depression these last couple of days, leaving me with hardly enough energy and spirit to iron the cassocks and tidy up the hymnals after the evensong services. I have been unable to reply for a few days because of my mood. I felt that I was just getting to know Mrs Sawers, and what she was up to; even though we had never met, her charitable nature, steadfastness and burning honesty had shone though to me like a beacon. I am only sorry that the many prayers and invocations performed here at Mbalonga Baptist failed to save her from a sad and premature demise. But she is happy now, I am sure of it. I know that you have also been hearing from my financial advisor Tushie, but am not sure if you have copied her into this very sad news so I do so with this reply, I hope you don' t mind. I imagine this is all rather moot now as with the death of your client the business will surely be brought to a close. May I extend my deepest condolences to you and her family. I myself suffered a sad loss recently when stampeding gruffalo carried away young Merkin our vestry lad, and it all goes to show how fleeting is this life before we are brought into the bosom of the Lord. To commemorate the late Mrs Sawer I have lit a whale-oil candle in the chapel here and placed a single red rose at its foot. It will remain there until they come to set up the projector screen for the weekly film club. Sad tidings indeed God help you Rev T Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Subject: Demise of Mrs Sawers Dear Mr Melet, A wealthy parishoner of my client, Reverend Lonslo Tossov, wishes to donate s substantial sum of money to a good cause in memory of the late Mrs Sawers. Perhaps you can suggest a suitable charity? Yours sincerely,
MRS TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Barrister Melet
... is too high-minded to take the money - for now! Date: Fri, 15 Jul 2011 Greetings Mrs Mashuganah, The reverend Lonslo Tossov metioned your name in his last mail, did you happen to know the late Madam Sawers? The Gesture you refer to has been noted and actually heart felt. However i am not in the best position to receive charities in this regard. Thanks,
Human right attorney Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 16, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Thank you for your e-mail. I never met the late Mrs Sawers but I contacted you in my capacity as the personal banker of Reverend Tossov and several members of his congregation. I presume that Dr Hugh Janus, the gentleman who wishes to donate £10,000 to a charity in memory of Mrs Sawers, must have been a close friend of this deceased lady. Mr Janus suggested that I contact you because as her lawyer you might wish to receive this money and distribute it to charities she she supported. Let me know if you would like to reconsider your position and take on the task of distributing the £10,000 on Mr Janus' behalf. Send me your bank details and I will arrange for an immediate electronic transfer of this amount. You would be entitled to the usual 5% fee for your work although you may wish to waive this entitlement in these sad circumstances. However, if you feel you are unable to assist the distribution, perhaps you would be kind enough to take on this task. Unfortunately Dr Janus is unwell and is unable to undertake the work himself. Best wishes,
MRS TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Subject: Mrs Sawers Dear Dr Clerk, I believe I should have sent this e-mail to you as opposed to Mr Melet who informed me that as a barrister, he does not feel he can help in the distribution of £10,000 to charity. If you can assist please e-mail me at your earliest convenience or telephone me on 44 xxx xxx xxxx. Yours sincerely,
MRS TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Barrister Melet
Date: Tue, 19 Jul 2011 Hello Madam, I have made contact with a few people who Mrs Sawers affected there lives and now i can say that i am in the position to receive the donation. She had a very befitting burial where i met a few people who also received charity from her,she even gave out her personal belongings. Confirm Dr Hugh Januse intent so that i can forward an account to you for the donation . God almighty will heal him and reward him in Jesus name i pray ...
Thanks, Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 19, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Thank you for your e-mail. I am pleased that you now feel able to distribute this £10,000 to charity. The only slight problem is that after receiving your note which informed me that you were not in a position to help, I contacted Dr Clerk and here is a copy of the e-mail I sent him yesterday: Dear Dr Clerk, I believe I should have sent this e-mail to you as opposed to Mr Melet who informed me that as a barrister, he does not feel he can help in the distribution of £10,000 to charity. If you can assist please e-mail me at your earliest convenience or telephone me on 44 xxx xxx xxxx. I have not received a reply from Dr Clerk so may I suggest that you contact him and tell him that you will now undertake this task. All I need before I transfer this money to you is a list of the charities you believe Mrs Sawers would wish to support. I understand that Dr Hugh Janus would prefer you to make two or three large deposits rather than doling out the cash in small amounts - with the exception of say £1,000 to Reverend Tossov who can be relied on to use the money wisely. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. In the meantime the £10,000 is earning a small amount of interest.
Kind regards, The Reverend Lonslo Tossov
CC: barr.cristianbarrosmelet@yahoo.co.uk; drmichael_clerk@yahoo.co.uk I am slightly confused by all the messages which have been flying about since my late absense at the Merkin Ecumenical Conference. It has only been the persistance of a nasty insect bite on my cincture which has stopped me from getting up and using the rectory computer until now. Who is paying what, and to whom and when exactly? Lord I am confused. Our tin roof badly needs patching and I thought modalities were in hand to help this matter. Dr Hugh Janus very kindly popped round with a box of chocolates last night by the way and sends his regards. God help us Rev TMrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 19, 2011 Dear Reverend Tossov, Be assured that I shall insist that Barrister Melet agrees to donate £1,000 to your New Roof Fund. This will be done speedily as I am aware that Dr Hugh Janus would be most upset if there is any blockage. I will contact Mr Melet first thing tomorrow morning. May the Bluebird of Happiness Lodge in Your Armpit [as we say in Old Smegaroon]
TUSHIE xxx As it turned out, there was a bit more before the Lads slunk away. Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 20, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, I have spoken to Dr Hugh Janus and he is happy for you to give the money to the Orphanage - with the exception of £1,000 which he wishes to donate to Reverend Tossov's Indigents & Goniffs Charitable Fund. This would leave £9,000 for the Orphanage less your fee which is usally 5% [£450.00]. Furthermore, Dr Janus would like to know the name of the Orphanage concerned. How would you like to proceed? If this is agreeable to you, I suggest that as Reverend Tossov lives here in Mbalongawank, I will place £1,000 in his account and send the £9,000 directly to you. You will be pleased to know that the Bank will not make any charge for this transfer. So if you would let me have the name of the Orphanage which I will pass to Dr Janus along with your bank details, I should be able to make the necessary arrangements to transfer the money within 24 hours of receiving this information from you. Kindest regards,
Mrs TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 21, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Thank you for your swift response. I am pleased to inform you that Dr Hugh Janus is happy for his donation to be sent to the Wesley Orphanage. However, you have not confirmed whether you agree that I should transfer £1,000 to Reverend Tossov. Once I have this confirmation I will be able to send you £9,000 - the remainder of Dr Janus' bequest. Finally, I can assure you that there is very little chance of your bank details being compromised if you send these to me by e-mail. Are you really sure you would want a large sum of cash to be sent via Western Union? I would advise against this but of course it is your decision. Yours sincerely, Mrs TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 22, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Thank you for your e-mail of July 21st. All arrangements for the transfer of £9,000 to you have now been finalised. As you are aware, I have been somewhat concerned at making this transfer by Western Union so I am pleased to inform you that payment will be made through our British partners Kreplach Brothers Merchant Bank, Lampard House, Fleet Street, London EC4 FU2. Mr Charles Farnes-Barnes of Kreplach Brothers will be in contact with you later today. Remain blessed, Yours sincerely,
TUSHIE MESHUGANAH Charles Farnes-Barnes
Subject: FW: Demise of Mrs Sawers 22 July 2011 Dear Mr Melet, I have been authorised to make a payment of £9,000 to you by Mrs Tushie Meshuganah of the Mbalongawank First National Bank of South Africa. I have your Bedford Row address to which a cheque can be sent - or would you like to collect this money in cash? If so, our office hours are 9.30AM to 5.00PM. As you see, we are only a short walk away from your office. If you prefer to have the cash, just ask for me or my deputy Neil Down. Yours sincerely,
Charles Farnes-Barnes Mrs Tushie Meshuganah
Date: July 25, 2011 Cc: Charles Farnes-Barnes Dear Mr Melet, At this moment of time I understand that you may well be extremely busy in court but Mr Farnes-Barnes of Kreplach Brothers Merchant Bank International tells me that he is quite prepared to send a courier round to your office at 9 Bedford Row with the cash. [This is of course NOT what "Mr Melet" wants, as he is not anywhere near 9 Bedford Row. But you knew that.]
So do you still want to use Western Union? If so, I suppose Mr Farnes-Barnes will oblige. Yours in service, Charles Farnes-Barnes
Date: July 25, 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Please let me know at your earliest convenience whether you want this £9,000 from Mrs Meshuganah of Mbalongawank First National Bank delivered to you by Aspis & Co, our registered couriers, or whether you still want the money sent via Western Union. Yours sincerely,
Charles Farnes-Barnes Charles Farnes-Barnes

Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2011 Dear Mr Melet, Mr Charles Farnes-Barnes of Kreplach Brothers Merchant Bank in London tells me that he has sent you an e-mail yesterday to ask whether you want the £9,000 in cash delivered by Aspis and Co or whether you still prefer the money to be sent via Western Union. Mr Farnes-Barnes is going on holiday at the end of the week and would really appreciate an answer from you before he leaves for Smegaroon. So please advise Mr Farnes-Barnes as soon as possible. Yours sincerely The Reverend Lonslo Tossov
Date: July 31, 2011 Dear Barr Melet I am lately returned from an audience with Cardinal Richelieu after a vacation in Smegaroon and am surprised to see little advance in this business during my absence and remain a little confused. Please assure me that matters are being taken seriously your end. When can I expect the thousand pounds that has been mentioned? Will this come from your office? The Cardinal has a low estimation of lawyers, ever since the tribal dance held for the harvest festival last year with all the breakages incurred and the subsequent delay in claiming damages. This is surely not going to improve things. Rev T The Reverend Lonslo Tossov
Date: August 2, 2011 Dear Barr Melet I don't understand. We are all very busy (I, for instance, have the ladies' annual goat roast to arrange and have yet to book the DJ for the church hall) but surely this matter is important to all concerned? Does this mean your secretory able to send the thousand pounds? Rev T
The Reverend Lonslo Tossov I think this may be the end because the little yold has stopped responding to our e-mails... |
