Though I know that a transaction of this magnitude will make any one apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you that all will be well at the end of the day. We decided to contact you due to the urgency of this transaction.

We discovered an abandoned sum of US$5,500,000.00 (five million five hundred thousand united states dollars) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customers who is an army general in Iraq who died along with his entire family in the US Iraqi war. Since his death, none of his next-of-kin or relations has come forward to lay claims for this money as the heir. We cannot release the fund from his account unless someone applies for claim as the next-of-kin to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines. Upon this discovery, we now seek your permission to have you stand as a next of kin to the deceased as all documentations will be carefully worked out by us for the funds (US$5,500,000.00) to be released in your favour as the beneficiary's next of kin. It may interest you to know that we have secured from the probate an order of madamus to locate any of deceased beneficiaries.

Please acknowledge receipt of this message in acceptance of our mutual business endeavour by furnishing me with the following;

Joseph Stalin

Mr. Von Heinz,

Please excuse my tardy reply. I am at my dacha at the moment, but communications this far out in the countryside are terrible. All this 'privitization' crap has destroyed the country.

I just wanted to let you know that I am still very interested in our transaction. I plan to return to Moscow on Saturday and will contact you then.

Hui Tebya, [means f*** you in Russian]
J.V. Stalin

ps - English is not my native language; could you please explain what you mean by 'modality'.

Stalin,

Ok, I will be expecting your mail as soon as you enter Moscow on Saturday.

Thanks,
Von.

Joseph Stalin

Mr. Von Heinz,

Again, sorry it to so long to get back to you. I didn't make it back to the city until this morning. All of the government officials here are driven around in Benzes and BMW's. Me they give a Lada, and the damned thing broke down on the way back. I had to spend the night in some little village and they finally sent a car for me this morning.

Ok, let's get down to business. You requested some information from me.

1. Full name and Address: Joseph Vasarionivich Stalin, 1 Red Square, Moscow, Russian Federation, 114787

2.Personal phone and fax numbers: My phone line is closely monitored by the government here and getting a secure fax line would be impossible. I don't have a mobile phone but I'll make an effort to get one this week. If you want to keep this transaction confidential, email is the best way for now.

By the way, you never did explain what a 'modality' is.

Since it appears that we're going to be busines partners, I have a couple of questions myself.

1.What part of Switzerland are you in and which bank do you work for?

2. I can't really tell from your name, but by any chance are you of the, uh, Germanic persuasion?

3. Are you married? Any kids?

That's all I've got for now. Let me know what we have to do next.

Hui Tebya,

Joseph Stalin

Subject : My ID.

Hello Joseph,

Thank you for your mail and the information you have sent, But before will commence this transaction, I will require from you any form of identification of yourself. See attachment for my ID and I will also be sending the last bank statement of the deceased just to prove to you what I say. I need you to send me any valid identification e.g. your drivers license or a copy of your international passport. You can scan and send to me through email attachment of one of this for me to have a recognition of whom I am dealing with. This is very important for us to begin.

I am with Valiant Privatbank AG, Switzerland. Note that I am a seasoned banker who knows the intricacies involved both local and international banking laws as the case may be. All inheritance taxes here in bern will be taken care of by me as well as handle all aspects with my bank to release the funds in your favour. I will be the one to secure the change of beneficiary documents in your favour as all modalities have been put in place to achieve this goal.

Once this is presented to my bank, an approval for the deposit that I shall influence will be granted for the funds to be paid to you directly or through the correspondent bank, as I shall specify in the beneficiary applications for transfer approval.

You will be required to possess a good account to house the funds, pending the eventual transfer into your bank account. Once you have the transfer approval, you can also effect the transfer online via the Internet into your bank account from the comfort of your home.

Please, remember that I am 54 years old and I have put in over 19 years in the banking industry and as such I would not want to compromise my career. Keep this highly confidential. If I could do this alone I will not have contacted you. I believe that I have been explicit enough. You shall be duly compensated as earlier stated.

You can reach me on my personal telephone number: +41-76-432-9560 for further discussions. I await to hear from you for us to proceed.

Regards,
Mr. Erick Von Heinz.

NB. I will also need you to get the mobile phone, telephone communication is very important in this transaction.

Mr. Heinz,

I must apologize for my tardy response. I had important matters in St. Petersburg to attend to this last week and maintaining secure communications on these trips is an impossibility. I thought it best to wait until I returned to Moscow. Again, my apologies and my assurances that I am still very interested in assisting you. The $1 million that you have agreed to pay for my assistance will go a long way in helping me to recover some lost real estate, called Eastern Europe, that my successors let slip through their grimy fingers.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Subject : I have applied.

Joseph,

Sorry that you did not hear from me for this long, I was getting all documentation together. I have gone ahead to proceed this morning by submitting the application presenting you as the next-of-kin. In addition to the application which I presented to my bank on your behalf, I have proceeded with the change of beneficiary documents through our legal unit in your favour from the department of justice as well as the high court for a probate registry certificate which will be included in your file for vetting and approval by my bank. Once this is stamp duties and returned to my bank, an approval for the deposit, which I shall influence, should be granted for the deposit to be directed to a correspondent bank for payment to you.

Everything is now in place and I am going to push it with all I have got so that the governing board vet over it during the next sitting. I must advice you to be very close to your phone and fax and always check your email, as I am not sure of which way you would be contacted.

I will handle all requirements demanded by my bank and please never you mention that you have an insider in my bank, it is important you maintain confidentiality at least till we are able to get the funds out of my bank. Do not hesitate to update me once my bank contacts you and I will also do same from here as soon as I receive any news.

With all the monies I will be spending on your behalf on gratifications as well as documentations to be submitted along with processing your application, success will definitely be ours. I am sure you are capable of handling this pet transaction of ours and please note that this may just be the beginning of a lifetime relationship between us.

I urge you to work with me in spirit for success, as there is enough accruable for us from this project.

I await your confirmation of this mail.

Regards
Von Heinz.

NB. You have not sent your identification yet, please do send it as soon as poosible, it is very important.

Joseph Stalin

Mr. Von Heinz,

From your last email it sounds as if you're well on top of the situation. There is nothing I respect more than hard work and efficiency, but then you Germans have always been known for these traits. I remember before the war I used to enjoy watching the films of German military parades in Berlin. So precise, so efficient, the rows of soldiers marching in perfect unison to the sound of tubas. Not like those Italian parades, with a ragtag bunch playing concertinas at the front, soldiers dropping their rifles to chase after girls. But I digress.

Let's discuss the matter of my identification - you obviously know who I am as it was you who first approached me. Which brings up an interesting question - how did you locate me? Before I go to all the trouble of obtaining a passport just to prove to you who I am, I would like to see some evidence that these funds actually exist. You would be able to provide such documentation, would you not?

Secondly, your last email mentioned the amount of money you would be spending on 'my' behalf for 'gratifications'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the money is actually being spent on 'our' behalf, da? And can you explain what is actually meant by 'gratifications'? This could be anything from bribes to paying for hand-jobs. Please elaborate.

I also asked you previously (twice) what the term 'modality' means, which you never explained.

You will please pardon my inquisitiveness. Call me silly, but as a former member of the government here, I have always strived (strove? striven? Pardon me, but, again, English is not my native language) for true Soviet efficiency and accuracy.

I anxiously await to hear from you again.

Hui Tebya,
J.V. Stalin

ps - Do you have any military experience? I ask only out of curiousity.

[Dr. Strangelove provides a bank statement and, sure enough, there's 5.5 mil there, ours for the taking. Am I being overly picky or is there is a problem with the deceased being Italian, not Iraqi, with an Italian address, and a name that's different from the what I was told in Erick's second letter?]

Hello Joseph,

Let me start by answering your questions.

I got your contact information from my bank, from the banks directory. I need your identification so that I can know you facially because once the funds are approved and transfer out of my bank to your nominated bank account, I will be coming over to Moscow to meet with you and collect my share of the money. I will like to invest part of the money in your country and I will like for you to introduce to me a good business opportunity in your country I can invest part of my money on. So I will still need you to send me your identification.

You said you will like to see some evidence that these funds actually exist, but I did send to you the last bank statement of the decease, or are you saying you did not receive it? If that is the case, I am attaching it again on this mail for your perusal.

In a transaction of this magnitude, money has to be spent in all ratification to see it through and this money is been spent to the betterment of the transaction because I know how much money will come out of the transaction. So if you call it gratifications or bribes it is all the same thing provided the funds is successfully transferred out on my bank. Getting all the legal documentation and all paper work coursed me a lot of money.

I also want to inform you that I was able to achieve some progress yesterday and I am very hopeful that your transfer approval should the granted before the end of this week when the governing board of my bank will sits over various claims and approval.

Please note that I introduced you to my bank in all documentations submitted as the only surviving nephew to the deceased, just in case you are asked when you are contacted. Do well to inform me once you are contacted for proper advise from me on what to do or say to them. I used your name as signature where required, all that is important now is for us to pray that we secure the necessary approval this week. Also note that I specified that you be contacted via fax or email so you will have to check with me first before responding to them.

I shall update you accordingly, please send me your telephone number so that I can call you once I get any information to pass across.

Please confirm receipt of this mail.

Regards,

Von.

Mr. Von Heinz,

I received your email with the last bank statement attached.

You mention that I'm going to be contacted, but you did not mention by whom. What exactly will be the nature and subject of the contact, and when do you anticipate the contact?

Since I am posing as this Iraqi's nephew, please give me some details about how he died. It would probably also be a good idea if I knew some things about him - his wife's name, how many kids he had, where he lived, that sort of thing. I may be expected to know these things and I want to be prepared.

You still have not explained what you mean by 'modality', though this is the fourth time I've asked. Is this some kind of legal term?

I'll see if I can't get a secure phone line set up tomorrow. I'll get the number to you as soon as I can. Let me know if anything else happens that I should be aware of.

Hui Tebye,
J.V. Stalin

As soon as you get back from your old panzer division reunion or whatever it is that is keeping you from focusing on this transaction, would you please contact me.

Heinz,

Would you please put down that copy of 'Mein Kampf' and get back on the clock? Why is this taking so long? If I don't hear something from you by Monday, I'm out of this deal, and I might just let Simon Weisenthal know your whereabouts.

I just knew that getting mixed up with an ex-nazi capitalist was going to be nothing but headaches.
